Himeji Castle is a World Heritage landmark with an intact defensive complex, steep interior ladders and layers of restoration. Architecture and documented history lead this trip; ghost lore remains attributed folklore.
Himeji Station is the useful base. The castle and Koko-en share a northern district, while Engyoji requires a bus, ropeway and uphill walk or temple minibus.

The early-seventeenth-century complex survived war, demolition pressures and earthquakes. Its keeps, gates and defensive paths form the documented core of the visit.
Okiku's story appears in several regional and theatrical versions; Himeji tradition associates one with a castle well. It is folklore, not a verified event or sighting.
